REPORT ON TRADE MISSION TO ROMANIA
by Mrs Caroline Hadley,
Projects Manager
The Texel Sheep Society was part of a Team UK Trade
Mission last week (7 - 11 November) at Indagra in Romania and it proved to be a very successful event. We were
very pleased with the level of interest in UK Texel Genetics and the preliminary orders placed.
The event
attracted high profile visitors and included multiple
visits by Romanian Government
Ministers including the Prime Minister. The publicity
the British Livestock Group attracted was
exceptional with all the national TV and radio stations
carrying out numerous interviews.
Providing disease restrictions don't stop us, we
are confident that there is a viable market for
substantial numbers of British Texels.
This though
will not happen without a lot more effort and commitment
by us all. At this time I’d
especially like to thank the Texel Breeders who attended
the event and promoted British Texels on
the Society’s behalf - your efforts and enthusiasm
are very much appreciated.
All export enquiries received
will be channelled through the Texel Sheep Society
Export Club (which
is open to all members and circulated by email).
To be a member of the Texel Society Export Club
you must send your email address, Flock Code and
Prefix to caroline@brackenford.plus.com.
Membership is free and available to all fully paid
up members of the Texel Sheep Society.
Unfortunately no animals, at present, are able to
be exported from either of the Bluetongue
restriction zones.
We are currently working on an
order for a large number of in-lamb ewe lambs, which
will need to
be mated in January, to be transported in March,
ready to lamb in May and June. More details will
follow to Export Club Members, once we have this
order confirmed.
The Society will act as a ‘banker’ for
all orders, receiving full payment before any shipments
are
made. All export orders will be transacted in Euros,
with payment to members in Euros on
completion of transport. There will be a small commission
fee of 10 Euros per animal sold which
will be kept by the Society to help finance the administration
of this Club.
I look forward to hearing from you shortly.
Yours
sincerely
Caroline

Overseas Visitors
Due to an increase in the demand for British Texels
abroad the British Texel Sheep Society now has a
specialist department to deal with any enquiries
from overseas.
We would be delighted of course to show you the
sheep in person in the UK, if you have any plans
to visit at any time, please do not hesitate to contact
us, this is always the best way to purchase livestock.
But we can also arrange purchasing on your behalf,
acting as a go between for prospective customers
and our members.
To start the ball rolling, we ask that any prospective
customers complete the Export Questionnaire which
will give us more background information about your
farming system and hopefully we will then be able
to select the correct type of Texel sheep to match
your requirements.
The British Texel Society runs an Export Club, where
its members can lodge their interest in exporting
livestock or genetics abroad. When an enquiry comes
in, the customer’s requirements are matched
to one of our members in this Export Club and the
necessary arrangements are made.
We are able to arrange full transportation but this
is at the cost of the customer.
Attached is a questionnaire which we would appreciate
if you could complete and return to us.
