Highland Texel Sheep Breeders Club
Flock Competition 2009
The Highland Area Texel Sheep Club held their
annual flock competition recently with Mr. David McKerrow, Nochnary
Farm, Freuchie, Fife acting as judge.
The competition took place over two days with
Mr. McKerrow accompanied by the Chairman, Mr. Ian Campbell travelling
around 350 miles to complete the judging of eighteen flocks. They
once again had a Carcase Competition which was held in Scotch Premier
Slaughter House, Dornoch sponsored by May Selections and judged
by Mr Martin Gibson, Plant Manager.
The awards for both competitions
were presented at a Dinner/Dance held in The Royal Hotel, Tain.
Winners of the Flock Competition were –
The Best Overall Flock and the Runachloie Trophy was won by Philip
Gill, Wester Raddery, Fortrose
The Reserve Overall Flock was won by Charles & Isobel Angus,
Oldfield Farm, Thurso
The Hillside Trophy for the Overall pen of Ewe Lambs was won by
Johnnie Campbell, Bardnaclavan, Thurso
Reserve Overall pen of Ewe Lambs was won by James Barnetson, Lynegar,
Watten, Caithness
Small Flock
1st Prize and the Linglass Trophy was won by Steven Sutherland,
Sibmister, Thurso
2nd Billy Kellas, Burnside Croft, Jamestown, Strathpeffer
3rd James Barnetson, Lynegar, Watten, Caithness
Medium Flock
1st Prize and the Templand Trophy was won by Ronnie MacKay, Clyth
Mains, Lybster

1st Prize and the Oldfield Trophy was won by Philip Gill, Wester
