SCOTTISH TEXEL CLUB TRIP TO ORKNEY 17th -
20th May 2007
On Thursday 17th May 2007, 25 members set of for a
weekend visit to Orkney, leaving Lanark market at 8.30am,
stopping at the Forth Bridge, Kinross and Inverness
to pick up members. We sailed from Scrabster at 7pm
arriving at Stromness at 8.45pm

| Orkney Trip |
James Cowe was our tour
guide on Friday, our first stop being the Orkney Creamery
where we were shown how they make Orkney cheese. James
then took us to see his own flock (Hoxa) where the
sheep and Hospitality were both excellent which set
the tone for the weekend!
 |
| Italian Chapel |
We had a quick visit to the
Italian Chapel which started of life as a Nissan hut
but
was converted by Italian prisoners of war in to what
it is today, Amazing!
Next we visited Elaine Spence' s Halley flock and
once again the sheep on view and hospitality were both
excellent. Elaine had displayed some portraits of Texels
she had painted which were so good she sold two to
two eminent Texel breeders.

| Texel Portrait |
The afternoon was rounded
of by a visit to the Highland Park Distillery. In the
evening we were joined for dinner at our hotel by our
Orkney hosts.
Jim Leitch was our tour guide on Saturday. We started
with a walk around the beautiful Kirkwall & St
Magnus Cathedral. Next on to Keith Hourston's Didcot
flock where we viewed more excellent Texels and received
more Orkney hospitality.
In the afternoon Alton Coplands
Overhouse flock was our first port of call. Robbie
Rendall from Westray had ferried a trailer load of
his flock to Overhouse so we got two for the price
of one at this stop. Once again the stock on view was
top quality along with the hospitality.
 |
| Never leave Quads
unattended with Kids About! |
Our final flock visit was that of our courier for
the day Jim Leith’s Feolquoy flock where once
again the stock on view and hospitality we received
was what we had experienced the whole trip. FIRST CLASS.
To finish of the weekend our Orkney hosts treated
us to a buffet meal and celidh at the Commodore where
every one thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Many thanks to everyone who made this such a memorable
trip for the Scottish Texel club.
