Llandovery Sale 2010
TYNEWYDD TOPS
The Morgan family (Tynewydd) caused quite a stir at Llandovery
on the 3rd of September at the South Wales Club sale. For the first
time in many years a ram lamb topped the trade at 900gns. Their
lamb, Tynewydd Rameses, was a late sub by Arkle Pacific out of
a Lyonshall Irish dam. Club Vice Chairman Hywel Davies (Tyrcan)
tapped him in as his Champion and he sold to local Limousin breeder
Handel “Sgt” Rees, Gellysifor, Llandybie (Seevor). The ram lamb
stood up, was well grown and despite his tremendous size was correct
on his legs.

The decision to move the club sale to this date when it
was vacated by the National sale 2 years ago has seen a steady
climb in the prices for the top lambs. There was a definite buzz
at this year’s sale, the ringside remaining relatively full to
the end of the sale, no doubt assisted by the Club’s progressive
radio advertising campaign. Tynewydd Rufus, the Texel and Reserve
Lowland Champion from Brecon County Show, again by Arkle Pacific but out of a Haddo Lucky Strike dam, sold for 520gns. Reserve Champion,
Reserve Male Champion and second prize ram lamb was Scurlage Castle
Rip, an Aman Karwyn son out of a Woodmarsh Maverick ewe forward
by Keith Evans.
Reserve Champion and Female Champion was a Scolton
Gimmer by Caereinion Monarch out of a Hollyford Knocker ewe. What
she (may have) lacked in style she more than made up for in substance
and according to the judge handled and had better conformation
than any tup on the yard. She went on to sell for 460gns and helped
secure an average of over 340gns for 6 for Mr & Mrs Reed. Topping
the female trade with the top two prices were Des and Irena Lewis
(Einon). Their Reserve Female Champion and second prize gimmer
sold for 680gns to Wayne Phillips (Townswood). She is by the Early
NSA Champion Hull House Off The Rails, who was also bought by Wayne.
Their 3rd prize Gimmer by Hull House Nijinsky made 550gns and sold
to Lleyn, Zwartbles and one time Texel breeder Teifion Rees, Talfan.
The Lewis’s must be congratulated for the quality of the presentation
of their sheep yet again.
Topping the Shearling trade was young
Tomos Adams (Ty Medi). Meinspride breeding features strongly in
his stock. It is to be found on both sides of Ty Medi Pablo who
topped the shearling trade at 720gns. His sire is Meinspride Nijinsky and his dam is by Meinspride King Ben. Their 700gns 1st prize shearling
Powerhouse is similarly bred, this time out of Meinspride Nike who like Nijinsky is a Glenside King II son. Tynewydd were back
in the action in the shearling section selling Tynewydd Portsmouth,
a Haddo None Better son, for 600gns. Also sold at that price was
Banc Olive Perky from Jon and Bridget Booker who sold their 3rd
prize shearling, Pernod, and another, Prince Jon, for 580gns each.
