Llandovery In-Lamb Sale
Friday 16th December 2011
I must start this report by saying that it is with sadness that
the Club notes the passing of David Meek’s wife Patricia and we
all extend our sincerest condolences to him at his loss. It is
at times like these that a little perspective is brought into this
job. A wrong judgement in a show or a missed bid in the ring is
really an irrelevance in the greater scheme of things.

Gwynfor Richards judging the show
The Annual South Wales Club In Lamb Ewe sale at Llandovery saw
a return of the show and the ewes to the ring at Llandovery. Gwynfor
Richards (Ynysau) judged the pre show sale and shared the prizes
between the three entrants, Scurlage Castle and Ty Medi not being
able to bring their sheep to the sale.

1st Prize Gimmer
In First he placed a Loosebeare Gimmer from the Quick family by
Peacehay Masterpiece out of a dam by Clougher Judge in lamb to
Loosebeare Priceless (sired by Glenside Nosey Parker). However
it was her pen mate in the show that took the top price of the
day in the ring at 600gns to the Davies family of Dolaueidion,
Talsarn. This daughter of Nosey Parker is out of an ewe by Caereinion
Jewell (himself bought by the Quicks in Llandovery) and in lamb
to Tullochallum Perky. Later on in the sale the Quicks again passed
the 500gns mark selling another bred the same way to the 1st placed
gimmer again in lamb to Priceless to Phillips, Cwmcamlais, Sennybridge,
which helped them to an average of 396gns for 19.

2nd Prize Gimmer
Second in the show was the Chave family with their Peacehay gimmer
by Castlecairn Pheonix (a Castleknowe Matchmaker son) out of a
Lyonshall King of Clubs ewe in lamb to Scolton Panther, the top
price Texel at the 2010 NSA sale. She sold for 520gns to Messrs
Millward, Lower Gogia, Llowes. Another two by Pheonix hit the 500gns
mark. The first was out of an ewe by Milnbank Easter Promise tracing
to Tophill Abacus, the father of the Peacehay flock. She sold to
James, Brynelfed, Fishguard and was in lamb to Peacehay Masterpiece.
The second was out of a dam by Goldies Newsworthy who sold to Phillips,
Cwmcamlais, in lamb to Panther. Later one of the first lots of
the day was sold out of the pens for 500gns to Williams, Blaenwaun,
Talley. This was a daughter of Masterpiece out of a Claybury Ironman
ewe in lamb to Fachell Outlook. This brought the Peacehay average
to 328gns for 19.

3rd prize gimmer
3rd in the show was Gwyn Davies Trefere with his daughter of homebred
tup Trefere Morris II a Midlock King Kong son. Out of an ewe by
an Easterseat, she was in lamb to Muiresk Phil, an Anglezarke Nimrod
son and traced to the famous Beechvale Foreman.
The Club now looks forward to the January meeting on the 9th January
at 7.30 prompt at the White Hart Llandeilo (we have a lot to get
through) prospective members welcomed.
