2013 Progeny Show report & results

Club Chairman John Hardwicke kept it in the family for the South Wales Progeny Show, handing judging honours to his cousin Steven Hardwicke of the Talcoed flock.

Steven had some task, with well over 20 pens in the lamb classes. He went for his champions to the first prize pair of lambs brought out by Owen Hughes of the Vale flock. His strong well bodied lambs were by Goldies Supreme, stock tup at the Alwent flock. Owen was very impressed by the Livery Predator son that he saw on last year's club trip and had bought semen off the high index 10,000gns ram as a result.

Second in the pair class also taking top honours in the group of five lambs class was DJJ Watkins and Son, Cwmcerrig, with 7 smart and well coloured lambs by Glenside Razzle Dazzle. One of their dams had herself been part of the champion pen here as a gimmer two years ago and is by Rascarell Peppermint.

That wasn't the end for Rolland and Reuben Watkins though; they also took the Reserve Champion rosette with the best pair of gimmers. These long shearlings were by Kelso Pavarotti and are full embryo sisters to Cwmcerrig Topper, their first prize ram lamb from last year's Royal Welsh.

Second to these were a pair of gimmers from John and Gloria Davies, Aman, who were showing in this competition for the first time in fifteen years. Their only entry was these tight skinned and well shaped gimmers, a pair of sisters by Glenside Ring A Ding out of their "square" ewe.

Third in the pair of gimmers and taking top spot in the group of five was Alfryn "DADs" Davies, Ifan Ddu with seven gimmers by Glenside Forsyth. Their dams had also won the group of five here as gimmers two years ago, being by Aman Paradwys. This achievement is all the more remarkable as these are the sum total of his gimmers this year.

Second in the group of five lambs class was Owen Watkins, Caenantmelyn, with five strong lambs by Caereinion Rambo, a Cambwell Laird son bought by him at Builth.

Third was Adrian Windsor, Fern, with a group of fresh young but shapely lambs by Stelfox Phwoar, a shearling by Kingsland Olwen, sold at the Welsh National Sale. Club members had seen Phwoar on our Ram Safari three years ago.

Third in the pair of lambs class were a well grown and shapely pair by Tima Trojan, 1st prize Performance Recorded ram lamb at Worcester and RHAS, from Vice Chairman Deri Morgan, Tynewydd.
