Tommy Mactaggart Acknowledgement Message
Fiona and the MacTaggart family have requested the Society pass
on their thanks to all for their overwhelming support and messages
of sympathy received following the sudden death of Tommy. A big
thank you to all who attended the funeral.

Bumper Texel Entry Balmoral Bound
It's all systems go for Northern Ireland Texel Breeders
as the countdown is on to the forthcoming Balmoral Show. Victor
Chestnutt will judge an entry of 125 Texels on Wednesday 15th May
at the very first Balmoral Show set in its new home of Balmoral

Nematodirus - Risk Map - Urgent Warning For Sheep Farmers Sheep farmers must be on their guard against Nematodirus now that
the weather has warmed up, warns SCOPS. Such a sudden change from
cold days and frosty nights is when Nematodirus is at its most dangerous
with a mass hatch of over-wintered parasites forecast.

Report on Farm Animal Genetic Resources 2012
The UK Country Report on Farm Animal Genetic Resources 2012 has been

This is the first UK Country Report on FAnGR since 2002 and includes
an Inventory of breeds present in the UK in 2012. It looks at how
our farm animal genetic resources (FAnGR) are currently being used
and conserved, how this is likely to change in future and outlines
some important steps to ensure the UK continues to make progress
in conserving and sustainably using these resources.
Defra has led drafting of this UK-wide report, which has been developed
with the advice of the Farm Animal Genetic Resources expert committee
and the devolved administrations.
Teams of Welsh Farmers Invited to Compete on Finishing
Lambs
Farming Connect is looking for six teams of three Welsh farmers to compete against
each other to produce the most profitable pen of lambs grazed on a fodder crop.

Tommy MacTaggart
It is with great sadness that the Society informs
the membership of the sudden death of Tommy MacTaggart,
Rascarrel flock, Auchencairn, Castle Douglas.
Tommy was the Regional
Director for South West Scotland and Cumbria, and the serving
Sales & Shows Chairman.
Dedicated and enthusiastic, Tommy through his contribution
to the Society Board has been instrumental in moving
the Society forward in recent years. He will be greatly
missed by all at the Society. Our support and thoughts
are with his family.

Derbyshire Texel Donation
Regional manager Milly Wastie was on hand at the Derbyshire
Texel Club’s annual general meeting to received a cheque
for £500 from the chairman Robert Cartledge. [more]
Sennybridge YFC Rally
to be held on Saturday,
1st June at Park Farm, Sennybridge. The day will consist of many
enjoyable competitions including a shearing stock judging competition.
Gates open to the public at 9.00am and a range of entertainment
commences, running through to a great afternoon with more competitions
in the main ring and a tug of war towards the end of the afternoon.
There will then be a presentation session and at 7 pm a barn dance
and disco with Brecknock Holding One, one of the biggest dances
going.
Texel breeders deliver substantial improvement in commercial
traits
Increasing demand from commercial producers for quick growing,
well muscled and evenly fleshed tups has seen a significant uplift
in these traits in performance recorded Texel flocks over the last
two years, according to British Texel Sheep Society chairman Nick

British Livestock Genetics Consortium (BLG) will again be managing
inward mission support from EBLEX for potential breeding sector customers
or industry leaders/opinion formers to come to North Sheep AND

Texel hoggets defy hogget trade across the UK
A large carryover of lambs from 2012 in to 2013 means only
the best hoggets have been earning premium prices in recent weeks,
according to British Texel Sheep Society chief executive John Yates.

of the death of Jim Clark – Garngour Flock, Lesmahagow, Lanark.
Jim's funeral is being held at Lesmahagow Old parish Church at
10am on Friday, followed by the interment. The family have confirmed
further arrangements with Lanark Market restaurant, for anyone
wishing to join them afterwards.
