Brace of 1950gns bids lead Texel females at Chelford
Saturday's sale of Texel females for the North West Texel Breeders' Club at Chelford saw trade top at 1950gns twice, with trade strong throughout the day, and demand realistic, according to auctioneers Frank Marshall.
First to sell for day's joint top price was a Cowal Rob Roy daughter from Charlie Boden’s Sportsman’s flock. This one, BGS1100277, is ET bred out of an Ettrick Mighty Mouse daughter and sold in-lamb to Milnbank Special One. She had stood reserve champion in the pre-sale show under judge Angela Nairey and sold to Messrs Kellett, Castle Ashby, Northamptonshire.
Also taking a 1950gns bid was the day’s champion from the pre-sale show, an Ettrick gimmer from Selkirk-based Gordon Gray, GGH1101150, an Ettrick Rainbow Warrior daughter out of a 4800gns Springwell ewe by Kiltariff Osprey that is shared with the Knap flock of Robert Cockburn. She sold carrying to Ettrick Tartan Special and was knocked down to Richard Fitton, Bolton.
Following her at 1900gns was an older ewe from the major reduction of the Limestock flock of the Weston family. This one, a Cambwell ewe bred by the Laird family, LTC093644, is by Llangwm Nutcracker and out of a dam by Crailloch Galaxy. She sold in-lamb to Glenside Tonto and heads to John Llewelyn Owen buying for his Hen Gapel Flock, Anglesey.
A homebred gimmer from the Westons then collected a bid of 1750gns when selling to r H Evans, Minsterley, Shrewsbury. This one is by Baltier Nailer out of a ewe by Garngour Nijinsky and sold carrying triplets to Mitchell Hill Sundance.
And another from the same home then traded at 1700gns, with this being a Corriecravie ewe by Alwent Oliver, JTC09518. She is out of a dam by Haddo Knox Again and sold in-lamb to Alwent Talent. Buying her was Alex Brown, Darwen, Lancashire.
Charlie Boden was back in the money again at 1500gns when he sold another Cambwell Rob Roy daughter from the Sportsman’s pen, BGS1100212. This one is out of a Castlecairn Mohen Mint daughter and sold in-lamb to 42,000gns Tullylagan Tonka. She sold to Henry and Tina Ashley, Boston, Lincolnshire.
