Tamnamoney Gimmer Tops Northern Stars Sale

The 5th Northern Stars Sale of in-lamb Texel females at Ballymena Livestock Mart on Saturday 21st December 2013 saw excellent trade for in-lamb gimmers from six well known and renowned award winning flocks namely Alastair Gault (Forkins), Richard Henderson (Ballynahone), Roger Strawbridge (Tamnamoney), Victor & David Chestnutt (Clougher), guest consignors Martin Warnock (Straidarran) and Gordon and David Gray, Selkirk, Scotland, (Ettrick and Tima).

A Tamnamoney gimmer from Roger Strawbridge, Coleraine sold for the top price of the day at 5000gns. An ET bred daughter of Clynnog Joe Tex out of a Castlecairn Kennedy dam and in lamb to Oldfield United Star, she joins the Ballynahone Flock of Richard Henderson, Tobermore.

Second best at 3300gns was a Sportsman’s Scania daughter out of a Douganhill McFly dam from the Forkins pen of Alastair Gault, Newtownabbey. Sold in-lamb to Duncryne Uber Cool, she joins Richard Reynolds flock in Ballywalter, Co Down.

The Ettrick pen of Gordon and David Gray followed with a pair selling to 3200gns. First an Ettrick Rainbow Warrior daughter out of a dam by Castlecairn 007, in-lamb to Knock Topaz and was bought by Michael Smyth, to join his Foyleview flock in Limavady. The second, again by Rainbow Warrior out of a dam by Hewer Hill Mr Big and sold in-lamb to Teiglum Utah was purchased by Charlie Boden, Cheshire for his Sportsman’s Flock.

Next, at 2500gns, from Alastair Gaults Forkins pen, was another Sportsman’s Scania daughter out of a dam by Mullan Playboy and going back to Irish Hill Harper. Sold in-lamb to Forkins Utopia, a Knock Travis son, she was and purchased by Donegal-based breeder, R Doherty.

Gordon and David Gray then sold to Mark Breen, Co Tyrone. A Milnbank SGT Pepper daughter, out of a Knock Papoose daughter and in lamb to Llyfni Usain Bolt, changed hands for 2200gns.

Also heading South to Clonmany, Donegal to Rodney McCloughlin was another Tamnamoney gimmer purchased for 2100gns. Sired by Cairness Sportsman and out of a Ballynahone Oscar dam and of the same breeding line as Tamnamoney Rob Roy (5K) and Tamnamoney Stallone (6.5K), she sells carrying twins to Duncryne Uber Cool.

Another from the Tamnamoney pen, then sold to Alastair Gault, Forkins and Sam McAuley, Whitepark, in a two way split. Sired by Sportsman’s Scania and going back to Castlecairn Ion Rocket and Sportsman’s Frontier she also sells in-lamb to Uber Cool. She exchanged hands for 2000gns.

Hitting 2000gns again was Richard Henderson, Ballynahone with a Springhill Silverstone daughter out of a Douganhill McFly dam, in lamb to Oldfield United Star. She finds a new home South with L Brown, Letterkenny, Co Donegal.

The Forkins consignment then sold another for 1800gns. This Sportsman’s Scania daughter out og a Douganhill McFly dam and going back to Castlecairn Kennedy and in lamb to Duncryne Uber Cool, exchanged hands to James Kane, Castlewellan, Co Down.

Following suit the Gray consignment hit a hat-trick with three from the pen selling to 1600gns. The first an Ettrick Warrior daughter out of a Thinacres Masambula dam, in lamb to Teiglum Utah, sold to Keith Campbell, Drumsynie, Argyll, for his Cowal Flock. The second, an Ettrick Sir Alan daughter and in lamb to Ettrick Rainbow Warrior joins Alaistair Breen’s Drumderg Flock in Co Fermanagh. The third goes South, purchased by Seamus Delaney, Co Roscommon, a Foyleview Superstar daughter in lamb to Knock Topaz.

Trade remained consistent with another Tamnamoney gimmer changing hands for the same money. A Duncryne Ringmaster daughter out of a Ballynahone Oscar dam and in lamb to Oldfield United Star also joins Alaistair Breen’s Drumderg Flock.

The trade remained consistent throughout for quality in-lamb gimmers with the overall average of £937.95.
