Texels top NSA Ram Sale, Builth Wells
Texels led the trade at the main NSA Ram Sale, Buith Wells, taking the six prices across all breeds and topping at 6800gns, with both shearling ram and ram lamb averages rising on the year and clearances in both main sections over 90%.
Leading the way for the breed was the Reed family’s Scolton flock, Pembrokeshire, with their pen topper being Scolton United, a Caereinion Rocket son out of a dam by Caereinion Master Piece. He sold in a three way split to a trio of Scottish breeders, the Wight family, Midlock, Malcolm Cubrough, Hartside, and Douglas Fleming, Burnhead.
Second best of the day at 4600gns was Cefyn Pryce’s Caereinion Ur The Boy, a Caereinion Number One son out of a dam by Summerwood Grand Union. This ET bred shearling sold with an index of 250.
Then making 4200gns was the second best from the Scolton pen, Scolton Uranium. This one is again by Rocket and is out of a dam by Caeieinion Master Class.
And taking a bid of 3600gns was Llanthomas Untouchable form G P amd M Jones. This Clun Panther son is out of a dam by Meinspride Lightening. Following him at 3500gns were a pair from the Scolton pen, with the first being Scolton User Friendly. Another by Rocket he is out of a dam by Caereinion Monarch.
Second at this level was Scolton Unit, a Rocket son out of another Master Class daughter.
The best lamb price of the day was the next highest call, when Teilo Vawr sold at 3300gns. This one is sired by Wydden U R Special and is out of a dam by Knock Nugget. He sold to Ed Samuel, Messrs Creer, Ballyglonney, and Messrs Bradley Farmer and carries an index of 353.
After that came a 2500gns bid for Caereionion Ubelter from Cefyn Pryce. By the homebred Caereinion Faultless and out of a dam by Caereinion Ronaldo, he sold to the Isle of Man with the Creer family with an index of 226.
The Creers then recouped some of their day’s outlay when taking 2400gns for Ballyglonney Uilliam, a Cambwell Strongbow son out of a dam by Coolingel Ordin.
The champion from the pre-sale show, Logie Durno Usain from the Ingram family, then sold at 2200gns. This Cowal Rising Star son is out of a Langside New Approach daughter and sold with an index of 304 to Messrs Campbell, Thrunton.
And a pair traded at 2000gns, with the first of these being another from Cefyn Pryce, Caereinion Untouchable. Sired by Caereinion Number One and with an index of 298 he is ET brother to the 4600gns Caereinion Ur The Boy and sold to Messrs Jenkins.
Also at this money was Scolton Unify from the Reeds. Sired by Caereinion Master Class and out of a dam by Caereionion Monarch he was the pick of Messrs Morgan for the Tyenwydd flock. The Scolton pen levelled at £1600 for 27 sold.
Heading up the female prices was a call of 700gns for Iolo Prys Jones first shearling ewe from his Llangwm consignment. This was JLI300768, a triplet born Sportsmans Superstar daughter out ofa dam by Glenside Legacy. With an index of 314 she sold having been AI'd to the 7000gns Knap Vinnie Jones.
Averages; 65 shearling ewes £359.26, 25 ewe lambs £224.70, 714 shearling rams £683.38, 326 ram lambs £353.23 (Clee Tompinson and Francis).
