Realistic prices and a 90% clearance of all sheep forward showed an excellent trade at The British Texel Sheep Society’s English National Sale at Worcester on 25th/26th August.

| Supreme Champion |
A fine show of sheep was put before the judge Mr. S. Richardson from Barnsley, Yorkshire. His overall Champion came from the Ram Lamb class with Hannah and James Draper securing the Championship and Castlecairn Trophy with Claybury Jackal, Reserve overall going to the 2nd placed ram lamb from Mr. Brian Buchan, Clinterty Jacob by Milnbank Hitman.

Shearling rams were headed by F.H Chave & Son’s son of Etterick Globetrotter with R. & B. Smiths Slapton Iceman in 2nd place. The winning MLC/Signet ram lamb, a son of Baltier Favourite, came from Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Helyer with Nigel Gibbs Bettonfield Jaguar in 2nd place.

Female Champion went to T.J and J.H. Prentice with a shearling ewe by Douganhill Genesis with J.S. Lodge’s daughter of Earnshaw Elite as Reserve.
Shearling ewes on Monday evening enjoyed a strong, if somewhat selective competition with the top quality types definitely in demand. Herefordshire breeder Nick Layton topped the females with his group 1 shearling ewe by Glenside Hot Shot, selling to W.H. Sinnett & Son, Stockton, for 1700gns.
Another four figure price of 1100gns from the same flock went to Vaughn Farms Ltd. Leominster, who also purchased from J & G.Y. Davies at 1650gns. R&B Smith’s Slapton flock produced an excellent run to level at 1200gns and 1150gns, both to Vaughn Farms Ltd.
Ram lambs were sought by breeders and commercial buyers alike. The top bid of 6800gns secured John Forsyth’s Glenside Judge, a group 1 genotype by Claybury Invader for S.P. and C.P. Williams Wollascott. A fine run of lambs from H.R. and J.R Draper’s Claybury flock enjoyed strong competition selling to 4500gns for the Supreme Champion Claybury Jackal, a group 1 son of Milnbank Yesterday to B.A.J. & B.J. Baggott, Little Haywood, Stafford, with another Claybury lamb selling to A.P. Plant, Leek, Stafford for 3500gns.
Steve Smith’s Penparc Jemidar, a son of Glenside Go-getter sold to the judge, S. Richardson for 4200gns with F.H. Chave & Son, Wellington, Somerset purchasing an excellent lamb from H & B Goldie’s Lochar flock.
Other major prices included a Haddo lamb to Ribbeldon Ltd. Huntingdon, Cambridge for 3600gns and three Muiresk lambs selling for 3500 and 3400 twice to J & H Thomas, Anglesey, A.W. Davies, Phwelli and S & R Lewis, Haverfordwest respectively.
Shearling rams found sound competition topping at 3200gns for E.W. Quick & Son’s Loosebeare flock to B.A.J. and B.J. Baggott with another shearling from the same flock at 2700gns to R.W. Francis, Craven Arms, Shropshire. The West Country also produced the third highest priced shearling at 2000gns from F.H. Chave & Son selling to E. Williams, Haverfordwest, Pembroke.
