Claybury Jackson - 4000gns

For the second year running the Draper family from Shropshire took away the top price of the day of 4000gns for their group 1 genotype ram lamb, Claybury Jackson, which stood 2nd in the MLC ram lamb class the previous day. A strong, correct lamb with excellent loin and gigot and good white hair cover went to the West Country syndicate of E W Quick and Son, Loosebeare and F H Chave and Son, Peacehay. At 3500gns Brian Davies, Danyreglwys, Brecon secured the 5th prize ram lamb, Lyonshall Jacob from Nick Layton.

The judge of the previous days show, Chris Lewis, from Norfolk said a few words before the sale, praising vendors on the quality of the sheep forward. He was especially impressed with the shearling rams, one of which from F H Chave and Sons, Peacehay Invisible he placed Supreme Champion. His reserve came from the MLC class, another Claybury lamb, Claybury Jonty by Haddo Ignitor.

Top price in the shearling section was given by H R Owen, Sandilands, Tywyn, North Wales for one from E W Quick and Son, Loosebeare with two shearling rams from Roger Williams, Clun, making over 2200gns and 2000gns.

In a sharp female trade the champion from W T Davies, Caniefaes was secured at 1200gns by P D Vaughan, Kingsland , Hereford, but the 2nd prize ewe from N B Layton, Lyonshall peaked at 1500gns to E J Samuel, Droitwich, Worcester.
