Texel in-lamb females secured a top price of 2,200gns twice at the Texel Sheep Society and Solway & Tyne Breeders Club show and sale on Friday at Borderway Mart.
The first price of 2,200gns was for a shearling gimmer from local breeder Peter Woof of the Stainton flock based at Kendal. His March born gimmer, a daughter of Stainton Inherit and out of a Tophill sired dam, had earlier won the reserve championship award. She was jointly purchased by Mrs JS Lodge of Moseley Grange, Doncaster and S Richardson of Mount Pleasant Farm, Barnsley.
The other joint price was for a shearling gimmer from the Glenside flock of John Forsyth, Maybole, Ayrshire. Sired by Claybury Invader and out of a Culterallers bred dam, she also carries Muiresk and Annan in her back pedigree, and sells in lamb to the group one ram Tamnamoney Finnegan. She was successfully knocked down to SP & CP Williams, Great Wollascot Farm, Shrewsbury.
The next leading price was 1,600gns, again appearing twice. The first went to a Muiresk bred gimmer from Colin Mair & Ptrs of Turriff, Abredeenshire. There February born gimmer, a daughter of Wartle Goliath and coming from an Annan bred mother, she sold in lamb to the 28,000gn ram Durisdeer Instructor. She went to J Winter of Clickham Farm, Appleby in Westmorland.
The other 1,600gn bid went to an entry from the Crookholm flock of KD & DE Millar, Canonbie, Dumfriesshire. This was a show gimmer who has already won tickets to her credit this season and is by the home bred sire Crookholm Impresario with her mothers pedigree carrying Annan, Woodmarsh and Brague bloodlines. She was sold to Messrs Watson & Chesney of Dundonald, Belfast.
