Report by Lynsey MacGregor (Scottish Farmer)

Hitman daughter sells for top of 1200gns

Topping the trade, at 1200gns, was an AI daughter of Milnbank Hitman, out of a Cambwell Ace-sired ewe that was bought privately from the Howie’s, at Knock. Carrying twins to the 21,000gns Glenside Lieutenant, this R2 gimmer sold to RE and RS Scott, Ashvale, Drums of Park, Cornhill, Banff.

Second-best for Mr Morrison, who runs a flock of 32 pure ewes, was a 1000gns sale for another R2 gimmer, this time by Durisdeer Instructor. The dam, a Glenside Gurka daughter, was bought at Lanark from Muiresk, and is the sister to 7000gns and 5000gns gimmers. In lamb with a single to Glenside Lieutenant, this one sold to Albert and George Howie, Knock, Peterhead.

The champion and reserve at the pre-sale show, judged by Kenny Johnstone, Boghouse, Crawfordjohn, Biggar, were twin R1-rated gimmers, from Bob Howieson’s Croft flock, at Elsrickle, Biggar. Sired by the 2100gns Teiglum Iceman, and out of a ewe by Cambwell Handsome, both are in lamb to the Ettrick Jedi son, Ryman Kitemark.

The pair made 950gns each, with Graham Morrison taking home the champion to Banff, and the judge purchasing the reserve — after running up the champion.

Mr Howieson also secured the next best price of the day, when another by Teiglum Iceman reached 800gns, to Hugh Jackson, for the Wolfclyde flock, at Biggar. This R1 gimmer, out of a Gregor’s Echo-sired dam, also sold in lamb to Ryman Kitemark.
