Glenside lead English In-Lamb Sale at 5500gns

Gimmers from John Forsyth’s Glenside flock, from Maybole, led the way at the December sale of in-lamb Texel females, at Carlisle.

Mr Forsyth was the only consignor to hit four-figures, with four Glenside sheep selling at or above 1000gns. All were daughters of the 13,000gns Castlecairn Keltic Star, the ram bought at Carlisle in 2004 that has already sired sons to 36,000gns.

Top price of the day went to Glenside, FPG05048, a Castlecairn Keltic Star daughter, who sold for 5500gns.

Best of the bunch, at 5500gns, was one out of a ewe by Glenside His Nibs and in lamb to Glenside Larry Lamb. She sold to Kenny and Karen Irving, for their Kingfisher flock, at Rigg, Gretna, Dumfriesshire.

The Champion, Glenside, FPG05181, was another Keltic Star daughter – which this time sold for 2500gns.

Second-top at 2500gns was the champion, which is out of a Turin Fantastic-sired ewe. She sold, in lamb to Watchknowe Lanark Cracker — a 44,000gns 2005 purchase — to Winter Bros Farmers, Clickham Farm, Apple-in-Westmorland, Cumbria.

A third Keltic Star daughter, Glenside, FPG05138, sold for John Forsyth, at 1600gns

Selling at 1600gns to W and C Jones and Son, Foxhall Farm, Henllan, Denbeigh, was a Keltic Star-sired gimmer, out of a ewe by Claybury Invader. She sold due to Glenside Larry Lamb.

Last to hit four figures and also selling to the Kingfisher flock, was one out of a Tamnamoney Finnegan-sired dam, in lamb to Watchknowe Lanark Cracker. She reached 1000gns.

Reserve Champion came from the Splash flock of J & M Allen, Splash, AMS03011, and sold for 680gns

The reserve supreme champion, from JR and MA Allen’s Lockerbie-based Splash flock, hit 680gns. Sired by Tophill Ideal and out of a ewe by Crailloch Golden Eye, she sold in lamb to Hull House Last Word, to J Wood, Hilltop Cottages, Colne Road, Trawden, Lancs.

Averages:
47 gimmers, £489.03; 7 ewes, £238.50.
