Having topped the sale in 2006, best this time for Mr Forsyth’s 100 ewe flock was a 4,500gns bid for his pen number two, which was earlier selected as champion. A daughter of 44,000gns Watchknowe Lanark Cracker, out of a ewe by the record breaking Loosebeare Imp, this one sold in lamb to Castlecairn Keltic Star, to Winter Bros Farmers, Clickham Farm, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria.
Meanwhile, another from Glenside, the exact same way bred and also due to Keltic Star, reached 1,050gns, to Paul Johnson, for his 90 ewe Corriecravie flock, at Cross Lane, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire.
Second top of the day was 1,300gns paid by Robin Bell, Charlesfield, Kelso, for one from Gordon Gray’s Ettrick flock at Sunnycroft, Lindean, Selkirk. Sired by Baltier King, this one’s dam – a Clynnog Joe Tex daughter – is a maternal sister to the reserve female champion at Lanark in 2004, which made 3,000gns. She is carrying twins to Teilo Mathonwy.
The reserve champion, from Harry Burrow, Greenwood, Wigton, Cumbria, was a gimmer by the Lanark-bought Cambwell Kruger, out of a ewe by Cambwell Highlander. Carrying twins to an imported Dutch Texel ram, this one sold for 900gns to J and H Thomas, Bryn Garth, Llannerchymedd.
Leading the ewe lamb trade was a first prize winner from Gemma Brown’s Brookhill flock, at Stonefieldhill, Rosewell, Midlothian. She is out of a ewe from Alex Brown’s Stonefieldhill flock – the majority of which, was sold to Simon Clark at Burton on Trent, in August. This flashy lamb reached 1,250gns, selling to PK and R Woof, Storth End Farm, Stainton, Kendal. Averages: Auctioneers:
