Breed enthusiasts Jim Goldie from Dumfries, EW Quick & Son of Devon and FH Chave & Son split this top price of 7,800gns three ways for Peacehay Masterpiece, CFP06018, a shearling ram consigned by Frank Henry Chave and Son, Wellington, Somerset. Masterpiece was breed champion and stood reserve for the inter-breed title at this year’s Royal Show. His sire, Lyonshall King of Clubs, was also a previous champion at the Royal Show. Masterpiece – an ARR/ARR tup – is out of a Douganhill Ferrari sired ewe. In the shearling section – the next highest was 1650gns paid by R Fitton, Bolton, Lancashire for a tup LNM06195, from Mrs A Nairey’s Meinspride flock at Blackburn that was champion at the Cheshire Show. The sire was Brijon Hercules.
Close behind at 1100gns was Mr & Mrs TW Helyer’s offering of Langford MacNamara, HML06120. With an Index of 256, this first prize Shearling ram in the pre-sale show sold to C Bevin of Wimborne in Dorset. New to the Texel breed, Trinidad Investments of West Sussex gave top price of the day, 7500gns for the Reserve Supreme Champion Claybury Nightrider, DHL071010, from the Draper family’s flock in Shropshire. By Claybury Millreef and from a family that has bred tups to 14,000gns going back to Haddo Kenny.
Another Shropshire breeder Stephen Williams or Great Wollascott Farm, Shrewbury gave 6500gns for Bill Quick’s Loosebeare Number One, QEL07006, who was by Loosebeare Knight Rider and went back on the mother’s side to Douganhill Ferrari.
Colin Ponting of Faringdon, Oxon took home the champion Garngour Notorious, CJN07554 at 5200gns. Bred by Jim & Helen Clark of Lesmahagow, he is by Tamnamoney Lynbrook and out of the inter-breed champion at Kilbride show this summer. In at 3700gns was Thomas MacTaggart with his ram Rascarrel Nightlife, MTR07235. By Douganhill King and going back to Loosebeare Imp, he sold to Steve Richardson of Houghton, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
Selling for 2800gns was a Cambwell Laird son fro Messrs T & A Laird, LTC07506, was out of a Hull House Enuffs Enuff daughter, and he had an Index of 302. He sold to Trinidad Investments UK of West Sussex, to add to their new Texel flock. Selling for 2200gns was Stainton Niffy, WPS07468, a ram from Peter Woof, by Crookholm Moscow Flyer, going back to Cornerstone Isaac on the dam’s side. He was purchased by breeders NE & JA Gibbs of Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
KD & DE Millar sold their recorded lamb Crookholm Nickname, MKC07024, for 2000gns to Mr EG Morgan of Sennybridge, Brecon, Powys. By Tophill Landmark, he was out of Forkins Jacko daughter. Doug Nesbitt’s offering of Alwent Nevada, NTA07428, sold for 1700gns to Mr SJ Lorman of Sherborne, Cheltenham. Nevada was by Alwent Major and out of a Turin Hardy daughter. Nevada had an Index of 331. Close behind at 1600gns was SJ & H Smith’s Penparc Nacarat, SJP07010, who is by Grougfoot Investment 2nd and out of a Tushingham Hero dam. The successful bidder was Tynybryn Farms of Newtown, Powys. Selling for 1400gns was KD & DE Millar’s Crookholm Nortons Coin, MKC07062, a Douganhill Lawman son, out of a Tullagh Hey-Boy daughter.
