RECORD PRICES AT WELSH NATIONAL TEXEL SALE

Despite the weather which kept many commercial buyers at home on the delayed harvest, pedigree buyers were out in force supporting the Welsh National Sale of Texels, and it was a proud Welshman who took the honour of topping this sale for the third occasion.

Caereinion Number One
Caereinion Number One sold for 12,000gns

Cefin Pryce from Welshpool achieved the top price of 12,000 gns with his Shearling Ram Caereinion Number One which took 1st Prize in this year’s Royal Welsh Show and again placed 1st Shearling Ram and Reserve Champion in the pre sale show when judged by Irishman Alistair Gant. Sired by Douganhill Landmark out of a homebred ewe by Cambwell Governer 2nd it was purchased in a 4 way split by Danny Creer, Ballaglonney, Isle of Man together with Robert Laird, Cambwell and Stephen Phillips, Phenjai with Cefin Pryce retaining quarter share.

Cambwell Outback
Cambwell Outback sold for 5,500gns.

The visit to the Cambwell Flock of Robert Laird in Scotland by members of the South Wales Club earlier in the year certainly paid dividends when he returned with a strong pen of 5 ram lambs to average 2,425gns. Top price was the 1st prize novice lamb at 5,500gns sired by Cambwell Laird; his full brother made 5,000gns at Lanark. Purchasers were D J J Watkins & Co for their Cwmcerrig Flock.

Cambwell Ogilvie
Cambwell Ogilvie sold for 2,700gns.

At 2,700gns. Marlsbrough Farms, Haverfordwest secured another Cambwell Laird son namely Cambwell Ogilvie, and Colin Ponting (Penstones) paid 2,600gns for a grandson of Cambwell Jaguar again sired by Cambwell Laird called Cambwell Onfire.

Cambwell Onfire sold for 2,600gns.
Claybury Othello
Claybury Othello sold for 2,500gns.

The Champion Ram Lamb came from the Claybury flock of James and Hannah Draper. Sired by Castlecairn Keltic Star out of a Muiresk Forever Dam, it sold for 2,500gns to W & A Jones, (Divlyn), Llandovery.

Einon Overdrive
Einon Overdrive sold for 1,800gns.

The Einon Flock of Irene Lewis in West Wales proved popular achieving 1,800gns for Einon Overdrive, a son of Milnbank Lyon King by Tophill Joe to M H Gwilliam’s Flock and 1,020gns to R P Ryder, Llan.

Tynewydd Flock
The Tynewydd Flock took the Female Championship.

The Tynewydd Flock of Deri Morgan which was the top flock in Wales in 2007 produced the Champion Female. This Haddo Lucky Strike daughter out of ewe by Lyonshall Irish goes back to Glenside Drum Major, selling at 850gns to John Forsyth (Glenside).
