Co Antrim Texel Sale prices peak at £4935
Club Sale - Saturday 6th September 2008
The confidence shown by breeders in the Texel was evident at the
NI Texel Club Show and Sale held in Ballymena Mart on Saturday
past. Prices peaked at £4935 when breeder Adrian Liggett purchased
Backburn Otto for his Corbo flock in Fintona. Otto, bred by David
Jones, Antrim is a smart Castlecairn Kennedy son from a Sweetwall
Gigolo ewe. Castlecairn Kennedy also featured strongly in the pedigree
of the second highest price of the day, when local breeder James
Adams, sold his Kennedy grandson sired by Forkins Mr Muscle out
of a Brague IOU dam through the ring to a price of £3150 – Kerryhill
Ozone joins the Ballymarlow flock of Geoffrey Fleck.

Judge John
Foster, Castlederg, chose his Champion from the pen of Jim Wilson,
Crumlin; this stylish Mellorvale Masterpiece lamb was shown in
the open class, while the first placed lamb in the Recorded class,
a Castlecairn Keltic son shown by John Currie, Tullagh flock, Ballymena
was awarded the Reserve Championship. Later both these lambs passed
through the ring selling to almost £580. Overall 109 ram lambs
sold to an average price of £340.
The
shearling ring also experienced quick trade for quality stock with
the first placed shearling ram, shown by Henry Gamble, Bangor realising
almost £790 in the ring while Richard Henderson, Tobermore his
shearling entry to a price of £715 overall 62 shearling rams sold
to an average of £424.
Mary Clarke, Dundonald dominated the
female ring selling a Clonallen Key daughter for £420 while the
other gimmer in her pen sold to £263.
