17000gns Blackstown Rambo packs a punch at Dungannon ringside
!
A successful sale of all classes culminated in the Gimmers, clearing
82% to average a respectable £536, an increase of £6 on the 2009
productive sale. The Shearling Rams exceeded expectations with
£614 average to a 89% clearance, £23 up on 2009 average, with 106
lots forward and 94 finding new homes with solid interest from
the South. The Ram lambs topped with a powerful punch from Blackstown
Rambo to a topper of 17000gns, with a similar clearance rate to
2009 at 70%, averages were up on the year by £55 to a decent £792,
a buoyant early sale for Northern Irelands finest Texel breeders.
Demand for Gimmers from Scottish and Southern Irish Breeders
keeps the elite female trade strong at Dungannon
Highlight of the Gimmers sale was the high price for Lot 37, the
female Reserve Champion carefully selected earlier in the day by
Judge Mr John Forsyth, Maybole, Scotland, owner of the prestigious
Glenside flock. An embryo lamb and daughter of the well proven
Brague Nixon, out of a Tophill Joe Dam, from the Mullan flock owned
by the Hanthorn family selling at 4600 gns and moving across the
water to Scotland and home to Malcolm Reids Kelso flock. Also from
the Mullan flock, Lot 38 achieved 1000gns, one of the five Gimmers
to exceed the 1000gns mark in the evening sale, by Milestonehill O’Gara and out a daughter of the 120,000gns Loosebeare Imp. The Mullan
flock pen completed averaging a healthy 1685 gns.

The Champion Female Lot 27 attained the second highest of the
evening at 1550gns from Kenneth Wilsons Firgrove flock, sired by
the 10000gns Cambwell OBE and out of a home bred ewe by Pergill
Monarch. Emma, Megan and Robert Shaws Mounthill flock Lot 16 achieved
the third top of 1300gns, an ARR/ARR Cherryvale Nijinsky daughter,
again out of a home bred ewe. Both Gimmers heading to Scotland
and the Killochries flock run by Ian Graham.
Lot 51 from Murray Annett topped at 1200gns with a daughter from
one of the top families in the Milestonehill flock. Sired by the
homebred Milestonehill Outlaw, himself a son of the renowned Mellor vale
Masterpiece bred by Charlie Boden, Cheshire and heads to Perth & Kinross
and Kerr Jarvies, Tapanui flock.
Four of the Gimmer high prices of the evening finding new homes
in Scotland.

Commercial demand ensures Shearling rams clear to a healthy 89%.
Ring 2 at the Dungannon Marts attracted a strong commercial interest
at the Texel Society sale on the 20th August. Topping the trade
were two lots the first Lot 142, Heathmount Powerpack at 1300gns
from McKinney Brothers, County Londonderry Heathmount flock. Sired
by Austin Shaws Fairmount Napoleon out of a Baltier King daughter.
Joint high price went to Lot 224 and second place in the pre sale
show, Farmhill Pirot bred by Brain Williamson a Garngour Nobleman son.

John Foster Springhill flock, County Tyrone, had a roaring trade
with four out of the top ten prices, three of which topped the
1000 gns mark. Best of the bunch was the 7th place Shearling Lot
125 from the show, the 1250 gns Springhill Perfection, by the prominent
Douganhill McFly and out of a Teiglum Magnum daughter. Daughters
from Perfection performed well at the recent Omagh show. Springhills
consignment of eight strong Shearlings averaging a respectable
867gns.
Lot 187 – CORBO PLAYBOY – LIG090046 – Adrian Liggett – Sold for
1050gns – 1st Place Shearling Ram Class

1st prize Shearling from Adrian Liggett exceeded the 1000gns mark
with Corbo Playboy by Backburn Otto, a Castlecairn Kennedy son
achieving 1050gns. Young breeders Beth & Jack Gault watched
their Cherryvale consignment and 4th prize Shearling, Cherryvale
Popeye lot 204 another popular Douganhill McFly son make 1100gns
and staying locally in County Antrim for N & D Hamills Ballynadrenta
flock.

for 17,000gns – Highest Priced Ram Lamb & 3rd Place Ram Lamb
Class.

Texel breed sale
The highlight of the sale saw a massive 17000gns bid for the 3rd
place lamb, lot 325, bred by James Wilson. Rambo with Brague Nixon as his Grand Sire, a Millcomb Powerhouse Son proved popular ringside.
Out of a home bred dam who is a Mellor Vale Masterpiece daughter.
Rambo delighted the ringside audience with strong bidding to the
17,000gns, with final bid going in third shares to the Larkhill
flock owned by Cahir McAuley, the Haramer flock owned by George
Harper and the Lisnataylor flock owned by Elayne Stevenson. Rambo eclipsing last year’s sale topper by 11,000gns.
Lot 352 – BALLYNAHONE RAMBO – HBR1000059 - Richard Henderson –
Sold for 9.500gns & 8th place Ram Lamb Class

Lot 352 added to the highlights in the ram class as another punch
came from a classy lamb in the form of Ballynahone
Rambo, bred
by the Henderson family, County Londonderry, Rambo gave a left
hook to achieve 9500gns, going to Scotland in a joint bid from
the Annan and Corrie flocks, of Keith Jamieson and Jim Black. Sired
by Mullan
Playboy, who was himself purchased jointly at the Dungannon
sale in 2009 for 5200gns. A proven sire that has bred ram lambs
to 1st and 3rd prize at RUAS.
John Forsyths Overall Champion lamb Lot 249, bred by James Adams,
Kerryhill
Renegade reached 3200gns with this, another Brague
Nixon son out of a home bred ewe, knocked down to R C Ellis, Denbighshire,
of EGLUR Flock.. Johns reserve champion Lot 384 didn’t disappoint
breeder Robbie Mulligan with a 2300gn bid from Murray Annetts Milesstonehill
flock, County Down.
McKinney Brothers, Blackhill flock added to their haul from the
Shearling rams with a 6400gns bid for a ram lamb, lot 427, Heathmount
Rhinestone a Kelso Oxygen son and out of a Douganhill McFly daughter
going to James and Austin Morgans, Drummillar flock. As well as
substitute Lot 1146 achieving 1000gns to make a well worthy sale
day for the Heathmount flock.
31 lambs exceeded the 1000gns mark pleasing a plethora of Northern
Irish breeders. Great success for Springhill with two to 1600gns.
The Henderson family adding to their successful sale day of Rambo
with Lot349, Ballynahone Rocket out of the best breeding ewe in
his flock, with sons to 2800gns, 1400gns, Rocket reaching the heights
of 1400gns and Rossi lot 348 sired by the Henderson family’s Mullan
Playboy to 1100gns. Lots 408 & 409 from the Forkins flock topped
1350gns and 1300gns for a Tamnamoney Ned and Mullan Playboy sons.
Millars flock also had a notable sale for their Millars Rocketman
and 1st prize ram lamb, Lot 363 propelled to 2000gns again from
Ian Grahams Killochries flock, Scotland, adding to his previous
purchases at the Gimmer sale. Millars 6th prize lamb, Millars Ranger,
a Kelso President son and out of a home bred ewe, went for 1100gns.
