Northern Ireland Premier Show & Sale - Dungannon
19th - 20th August 2010
Show report
An abundance of exhibitors gathered
at Dungannon Farmers Mart on Thursday 19th August 2010 for the
Texel Society's first of the four National Show & Sales
that will be run by the Society over the next two weeks. John
Forsyth Maybole Scotland, owner of the extremely successful Glenside
flock was greeted by a large audience as he started his judging
of the show. Gordon Gray, Society Chairman stated “that he was
pleasantly surprised of the power and size of the ram lambs,
considering the slow start to the year following the poor winter.
I was over at Balmoral and lambs had not grown on well at that
time, but they have certainly caught up now, which is credit
to the breed”
With a broad interest from across the Provence,
the audience also included breeders that had travelled from across
the UK and Ireland. The show and sale is sponsored by Northern
Bank, the Society Chief Executive Mr John Yates commented “the
continued support from the Northern Bank is very much appreciated,
Mr John Henning adds a personal touch to the sponsorship and always
makes the effort to be involved with the show and meet with our
breeders”

John Forsyth carefully looked through the strong classes
to choose his final champion Kerryhill Renegade bred by James Blair
Adams – Kerryhill Flock. Renegade is a Brague Nixon son. Nixon has sired lambs to 9,000gns, 8000gns, 3400gns and 3000gns, a proven
sire and one of the most successful used in the Provence in recent
years. The judge added “my champion today has real strength and
breed character”. The reserve spot went to another from the ram
lamb class, this time to Robbie Mulligan, shown by daughter Kim
with assistance from Robbies enthusiastic Grandson Robert Coleman.
Rosco
is sired by the home bred tup Brague Nelson. Rosco is a maternal
brother to the Brague Nixon the sire of the Champion.
Gordon Gray
added “that the continued support and enthusiasm for the Texel
breed can very much be seen when visiting Northern Ireland, the
amount of young faces around the show ring today is extremely encouraging”.
