Scottish National Premier Show & Sale
2010 Analysis
Summary: Sale Gross Income = £882,609
Sale Average: 361 Ram Lambs sold to average £2,445 (an average
of £189 on 2009 when 357 Ram Lambs were traded).
The increase was achieved despite the 2009 sale achieving a world
record price of 220,000gns for Deveronvale Perfection, so that
the 2010 demand was more structured.
Apart from the electrifying demand for the top 10% from registered
breeders, there was also a very good commercial trade throughout
the sale, with many lambs selling in the 500 – 1,500gn range to
commercial breeders.
The following tables highlight the “Top 20” flock averages and
individual prices; the respective consignors featured all deserve
immense credit for the quality and style of presentation of their
pens.
80% of the “Top 20” individuals were bred from first season sires,
including Strathbogie Python, the Inaugural winner of the ‘Sire
of the Year’ trophy. The sires involved come from several different
bloodlines; with the most dominant being Kelso bred sons of Mellor
Vale Officer.
The “Top 20” will have an excellent opportunity to spread their
genetic influence throughout the breed, as with syndicate involvement
many very prominent flocks are featured in the buyers list.
It will be interesting to note if the 2011 ‘Sire of the year’ will
emerge from the above or as has happened in the past whether a
less prominent purchase comes to the fore. Undoubtedly there will
again be very intense but healthy competition to achieve top honours
in 2011.
