Texels meet with Strong Trade at Gortin

Trade continues to remain strong for Texels at the ram sales with
averages up in most centres across the Province in both the Ram
lamb and Shearling sections.
Gortin Mart on Thursday evening
was no exception with 23 lambs selling to an average of £321 with
a top price of £462 for two lambs; the very first lamb into the
ring shown by John Watson, which was 2nd in its class, the other
was a Douganhill McFly son shown by Neil McIlwaine, Newtownstewart.

In the shearling ring John Watson, Annacloy also took top price
with a Milestonehill Landlord son selling to £641, in total 11
shearling sold to a very respectable average of £440. Jim and Alan
Elliott travelled from Cookstown with a pen of 3 shearlings averaging
£494 for the pen.

In the Smyth’s Daleside sponsored show, judge Marcus Barton, Lack,
chose his Champion from the lamb class and the pen of Brian Williamson,
Omagh. While his reserve Champion came from the shearling class,
a Downkillybegs son, shown by John Foster, Ardstraw.
