North Scotland Texel Club
Annual Show & Sale of Texel Rams
Thainstone Agricultural Centre Inverurie
A 90% clearance rate was achieved. Shetland
buyers were very prominent with around 30% of sheep sold destined
for the Northern Isles. As has been the case at all sales this
year, tight coated, lengthy animals with good all round conformation
found ready buyers.
The show champion was a Ram Lamb from Messrs
Stuart’s Birness Flock, sired by Tophill Knockout which later sold
for 1,000gns to a commercial flock. The top prices Shearling, at
900gns, was consigned by Brian Buchan, Clinterty Flock and sired
by Castlecairn Nairobi King.
Several of the top Shearling consignors
commented that their rams were sold far more cheaply than similar
animals at Kelso with Ram Lamb averages confirming this, down £72
on the year.
