At Kelso Ram sales a total of 1,272 Registered Texels were sold to average £670.32 showing a very satisfactory increase of £80 per head on the previous year. Gordon Gray Texel Breed President said that there was a tremendous demand for the top quality Shearlings on offer i.e. those with length, tight fleeces and good back ends. The following table highlights the leading 20 flock averages for Texel Shearlings with no fewer than 9 flocks breaking through the £1000 barrier. The majority of the 20 flocks highlighted specialise in the Shearling market, but several also enjoy success at the Annual Society Premier Ram Lamb sales, thus maximising annual income on the two fronts. Such flocks include Cambwell, Crookholm Ettrick and Cowal, all of which are fully Performance Recorded with Signet Breeding Services, an area growing in popularity with the Breed.
