Early NSA – Builth Wells – 1st August 2011
The trade was not so much selective as highly discerning at Monday’s
sale at Builth. Buyers sent a clear message that they want well
grown tups with backsides and they were prepared to pay well for
them, especially if they were not too heavy in the head. One such
tup was the top priced lot of the multi breed sale, Corriecravie
Ringleader, JTC1000036, from the Johnsons of Staffordshire, selling
at 1500gns. He was 3rd in the pre sale show and is by Cambwell
Onich, LTC083120, out of a Haddo Knox Again, KWJ04432, dam. He
was a long tight skinned shearling with a deep quarter and a head
with plenty of character without being too big.
Next best at 1,250gns was 5th placed shearling Millend Revenge,
WCM1000064, bred on the same lines as the Royal Welsh Show male
champion, Millend Piece of Gold, WCM09706, shown by Colin Ponting.
Revenge is out of Millend off the Scale, WCM08406, but out of a
Millend Landmark, WCM05135, dam. South Wales Club member Russell
Watkins brought him out as part of a strong run of tups and was
rewarded with a 690gns average for a total clearance.
In the aged tups, immediate past club chair Trudy Davies sold
Courthill Premier II, HCC09836 for 1,000gns, despite not being
able to show the tup as she was the Judge. He is by Hunting Cairn
Opposition look out, HLY08002, and out of a dam by Glenside King
II, FPG04308. She and husband James also achieved a total clearance
for an average of just short of 600gns.
In the females a small entry saw half unsold. They topped at 500gns
for a Peacehay gimmer by Castlecairn Phoenix, RNA09550, out of
a Lyonshall King of Clubs, LAY04046 dam.
A positive early start for the Texel sales, with keen interest
in the breed helping to produce increases on the previous year
sale.
Builth – Ring 2 - 4/5 (80%) older rams sold to average £585.38,
up £3.38, 113/148 (76%) shearling rams sold to average £580.94,
up £118.16, 6/11 (55%) shearling ewes sold to average £472.50,
up £206.85. Ring 3 – 23/25 (92%) shearling rams sold to average
£458, up £115.92
