32,000gns female Texel record set at Christmas Cracker Sale

In-lamb gimmers sold to a new breed record at the Texel Christmas Cracker sale at Carlisle on Friday, 9th December 2011 with a top bid of 32,000gns securing the first in the ring from John Forsyth’s Glenside flock.

A Strathbogie Python daughter from the Glenside flock - 32,000gns

Strathbogie Python daughter, FPG1000158

Taking this lead call and setting the new breed mark in the process was a Strathbogie Python daughter, FPG1000158, out of a dam by Cornerstone Isaac which was bought from the Haremoss dispersal for 2200gns. Selling in lamb to 32,000gns sire Hull House Space Cowboy she was knocked down to Alasdair Beaton for the Wester Crosshill flock, Falkirk.

Second top of the night was a 6500gns bid for another from Glenside and again by Python. This one, FPG1000130, is out of a Castlecairn Keltic Star daughter and was again in lamb to Space Cowboy. A twin to a retained shearling this one was bought by Edward Pugh, Bala.

And then making 6000gns was yet another of Mr Forsyth’s entries and another by the 2010 Texel Sire of the Year, Strathbogie Python, FPG1000053. She is out of a dam by Glenside Minstrel and goes back to Muiresk Blondin. Carrying lambs to Space Cowboy she found a new home with John Mellin, Skipton, breeder of Hullhouse Space Cowboy.

Following that were a pair at 5500gns. The first of these was a Garngour Playboy daughter from Albert and George Howie’s Knock flock. This gimmer, HAK1000073, is out of an Anglezarke Krug dam and sold with an index of 305 and in lamb to 20,000gns Sportsman’s Supreme and is a maternal sister to last year’s 24,000gns Knock gimmer. Buying this one was Brian Buchan for the Clinterty flock, Fraserburgh.

The other at this money was another from Glenside. Once again a Strathbogie Python daughter, FPG1000005, this one is out of a Castlecairn Keltic Star daughter and was also in lamb to Hull House Space Cowboy. She sold to Edward Pugh, Bala.

Selling for 4800gns was another from the Knock consignment, HAK1000083. This is a full ET sister to the Howies’ 5500gns gimmer and also sold in lamb to Sportsman’s Supreme.

The Howies then took 4000gns for another identically bred ET sister. This one, with an index of 305 was claimed by Douglas Webster, Caithness, for the Lower Reiss flock.

One from Glenside then traded at 3200gns, with this being FPG1000179, a Strathbogie Popeye daughter out of a dam by Watchknowe Lanark Cracker. She sold in lamb to Strathbogie Python and joined Lilburn Estates’ new flock at Wooler.

Averages: Cairness 10 gimmers £1223.25, Tophill six gimmers £1338.75, Knock 12 gimmers £2213.75, Rascarrell 12 gimmers £676.38, Midlock 10 gimmers £745.50, Glenside 14 gimmers £4747.50, Haddo eight gimmers £787.50.
