Texels Triumphant at Top Class Event
The two-day Royal Welsh Winter Fair, acclaimed as one of the finest
prime stock shows in Europe, opened at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells on
Monday 29th November 2010. Around 300 cattle entered for the Fair
and in the sheep classes the lambs (pairs) entries of 357 are the
highest at the Fair for six years.

The Texel Society through its sponsorship programme have encouraged
participation at a range of Primestock shows this Winter, with Texels
taking many of the championships of live and carcase competitions.

The Welsh Winter Fair 2010 has seen tremendous success for the breed.
The champion lambs, pure Texel, bred by Andrew Bishop and shown by
Steve Smith (Penparc) attracted the judges eye and went on to sell
for £400 each to Denley Jenkins who had said “they have exceptionally
good loins and hindquarters".

The champion carcase, a pure Texel
from Adrian Windsor (Fern) and the Reserve another Pure Texel, exhibited
by Gwyn Davies, (Caebetran) allowing the breed a prestigious 1-2
within high calibre carcase competition.
