Tommy and Fiona MacTaggarts Rascarrel flock repeated its success with the classy and well fleshed one crop ewe MTR091851, adding the Great Yorkshire Texel Championship to their recent win with the same ewe that scooped the Championship at the Royal Highland. She is a daughter of Rascarrel Och-Aye MTR08456 out of a dam by Templand Megane GKT06505.

Taking the Reserve Championship for the second year running was the Clarks with their Teiglum flock. This year showing their powerful Teiglum Rembrandt CFT1000185, who had stood 3rd in his class at the Highland going all the way to the reserve spot at the Great Yorkshire. Rembrandt has also been one of the few rams successfully supplying semen to the new Brazilian market earlier this year. Sired by Tommy MacTaggarts Rascarrel Panther MTR091805. Rembrandts dam is by the 20,000 gns Knock Oregano, Clarks adding that the female is proving to be a prolific breeder and show winner.

Reserve female spot went to John Mellins Hull House flock, with his Shearling ewe MJH1000230, sired by Springhill Norris FTS07014, bred by Northern Ireland Breeder John Foster. Out of a Groughfoot Dam, sired by Glenside Hotshot FPG01003. This win capping a fine day for the Mellins, who also gained 1st prize ewe lamb and 1st prize ram lamb both sired by the homebred Hull House Rothchild I MJH1000484.

The Grays Etterick flock also completed a successful day taking Reserve Male Champion with their Mitchell Hill Paparazzi KJM09015 stock ram, again following on from a successful Highland show where he stood first place aged ram. Paparazzii also stood strong in Ettericks group of three, helping the flock to go on to win that class.

Judge Gerwaint Jones of the ERW flock (JGE), well renowned breeder since his flock was established in 1979, stated that it was an honour to be asked to judge the Great Yorkshire, adding that it has been made even more pleasurable today to judge the depth and quality of stock throughout the Texel lines. The Texels on show are a great credit to the breed and with a focus on fleshing qualities will be a benefit to the Industry.
